Neighborhood Trees in a Small City
Tree Service in Lakesite tends to be straightforward residential work on established lots. Lakesite is a small city in northern Hamilton County, about 15 miles north of downtown Chattanooga, with 1,856 residents at the 2020 Census on about 1.7 square miles. It started as a neighborhood: when it incorporated in 1972, there were roughly 200 homes and 500 people. An annexation in 1995 grew its land area by about two-thirds.
Yards built around existing trees
Many Lakesite homes were built in the decades after incorporation on lots that kept some of the original oaks, hickories and pines. Those trees are now mature and, in many cases, close to the house. Trees that were part of a forest before the neighborhood went in also tend to have shallow roots that were cut or compacted during construction, which can show up decades later as thinning crowns or dead limbs.
Common Lakesite tree problems
1. Pines near the house. Pines can grow 80 feet or more. A tall pine within reach of the house, especially one that is thin at the top, is worth having looked at. 2. Deadwood in oaks. Older oaks shed dead limbs, often over roofs, decks and driveways. Crown cleaning removes them before they fall. 3. Overhanging limbs. Branches over roofs drop leaves into gutters and can scrape shingles in the wind. 4. Old stumps. Stumps left from past removals get in the way of mowing and can sprout or attract insects. 5. Storm damage. Thunderstorms bring broken limbs and hangers that need careful removal.
How we approach a Lakesite job
We start by walking the yard with you and looking at each tree that concerns you. We check the trunk, root flare, crown and the area the tree could reach if it failed. Then we explain what we recommend: pruning, removal or simply leaving it alone, and why. You get a written estimate that spells out what will be cut, how cleanup is handled and what happens to the wood.
Lake and storm weather
The Chickamauga Lake area sees the same spring and summer storms as the rest of Hamilton County. Wind off open water can be stronger than in sheltered valleys. If a storm leaves a tree hanging on another tree or on your roof, keep clear of it; trees under tension can shift suddenly when cut.
Working near neighbors
Lakesite's lots are close enough that one tree often affects two or three properties. If your tree hangs over a neighbor's yard, or theirs over yours, we can plan the work so it is safe for both sides and keep everyone informed before we start.
After the work
When a job is done, we rake and blow the work area, chip brush, and haul or stack the wood as agreed. Stump grinding leaves a pile of grindings that can be spread as mulch or hauled away, and the hole can be filled with topsoil and seeded.

- Size and setting. The city covers about 1.74 square miles at an elevation of roughly 748 feet, about 15 miles north of Chattanooga in Hamilton County.
- Service lines. EPB serves most of Hamilton County. Where it is your provider, the pole-to-house line is yours to keep clear, and EPB will lower it free so a tree service can prune, then reinstall it.

Lakesite Questions
How tall can a pine get before it is a danger to my house?
Height alone is not the issue. A healthy, well-rooted pine can stand safely for decades. Signs of trouble include a thin or dead top, pitch tubes on the bark, a lean toward the house or root damage. We can check it and tell you honestly.
Should I remove a tree just because it is close to my house?
Not necessarily. Many trees grow close to houses for years without problems. Pruning to clear the roof and remove weak limbs is often enough. Removal makes sense when the tree is dead, decaying or structurally weak.
Do you also work in Middle Valley and Soddy-Daisy?
Yes. We work throughout northern Hamilton County, including Middle Valley, Hixson, Soddy-Daisy and Lakesite.
Do I need to be home during the work?
Not always. If we can reach the trees and you have approved the written estimate, we can often work while you are out. We will want to meet you for the estimate visit, though, so we agree on exactly which trees and limbs are being cut.
