Room to Spread Out
Tree Service in Soddy-Daisy covers more ground than in most towns around Chattanooga, simply because the lots are bigger. The city stretches about 24 square miles, yet held 13,070 people at the 2020 Census, roughly 564 per square mile. That leaves plenty of homes on an acre or more, with woods behind the house, a tree line along the road, and sometimes a shoreline on Chickamauga Lake.
Two old mining towns joined into one
Soddy and Daisy grew up as coal towns: the Soddy Coal Company began mining in 1867 and Thomas Parks founded the Daisy Coal Company in 1881. In April 1969 the two merged with the built-up land between them along a nine-mile stretch of U.S. 27 to form today's city. The result is a long, narrow town with older homes near the old town centers and newer houses spread up the slopes and toward the water.
The escarpment side
To the west, the city climbs the Cumberland Escarpment, the steep east face of Walden Ridge. Homes on that slope often have big oaks, hickories and pines above them, and runoff from the ridge keeps the soil wet after storms. A tree uphill from a house is a different risk than one beside it: if it fails, it comes down with momentum. We pay close attention to leaning trees, exposed roots and washouts on hillside lots.
The lake side
East of U.S. 27, an inlet of Chickamauga Lake fills the lower part of Soddy Creek. Lakefront and creekside trees deal with fluctuating water, soft banks and wind off the open water. TVA manages the shoreline of its reservoirs, so if a tree stands on or near the water's edge, check what TVA allows before planning removal or major clearing there.
Jobs we see often here
- Selective clearing to open a building site, a garden or a view of the lake
- Removing dead pines and storm-damaged hardwoods along long driveways
- Cutting trees back from outbuildings, fences and pasture lines
- Stump grinding after clearing so the ground can be mowed
- Thinning and crown raising on mature yard trees near the house
- Storm cleanup where wind has dropped trees across drives or into the woods
People who stay
The Census shows 75.7% of homes in Soddy-Daisy are owner-occupied and 86.9% of residents were in the same home a year earlier. Many owners here handle smaller cutting themselves and call when a job gets too big, too high or too close to the house. That is a sensible line to draw: felling near structures and climbing work are where accidents happen.

Soddy-Daisy Questions
Can you clear part of a wooded lot for a garage or shop?
Yes. We remove the trees in the footprint, grind stumps where the slab or drive will go, and can leave or haul the logs and chips. Tell us what the builder needs so the clearing matches the plan.
Do I need permission to cut trees on my lakefront?
Shoreline along Chickamauga Lake is managed by TVA, and work on or near the water's edge may need its approval. Check with TVA before you plan removals there; we can work on the rest of the lot in the meantime.
A pine on the ridge above my house turned brown. Should I worry?
A pine that browns out over a few weeks is usually dead or dying, often from beetles after drought stress. Dead pines dry and get brittle fast, so it is best to have it looked at soon, especially if it is uphill from the house.
